What is a Contract Laboratory?
A contract laboratory is a service facility that carries out scientific analyses and measurements on behalf of external clients (sponsors). This allows clients to protect their own laboratory infrastructure, overcome capacity constraints, and access specialist expertise.
In diagnostics and pharmaceutical development, specialised contract laboratories (e.g. for IVD and CDx) are indispensable: they offer state-of-the-art equipment, certified processes, and the expertise to conduct regulatory-compliant studies and validation in accordance with IVDR and ISO standards.
When Does a Contract Laboratory Make Sense?
When regulatory-compliant study data is required (e.g. IVDR-compliant analytical or clinical performance data) but maintaining an in-house laboratory is not an option – or internal capacity needs to be preserved – a specialised contract laboratory is the most efficient solution. This is particularly true for time-critical projects, where external expertise and available capacity deliver real value without tying up capital in infrastructure or staffing.

Pooling and/or spiking of human samples to produce specimens with defined analyte concentrations is one of our core strengths.
